Housing Association

This is an organisation comprising of a body of trustees or company that is established for the purposes of providing, building, improving, housing accommodation. It does not trade for profit. Anyone wanting help with housing puts his or her name down on the housing association list, which acts in the same manner as council house lists. See shared ownership

Over the years housing associations have replaced the role that the local council had for housing local residents. As such a lot of the funding for these associations still comes from central government.
